| | How to Look After Your Pony Saddle
| An article from Best Pony Saddle UK
| | A properly looked after pony saddle should be usable for many years. The most important requirement is to keep the saddle clean and oiled. use a soft cloth to gently clean the saddle every time you use it, if it's excessively soiled clean it carefully with a bristle brush, an old toothbrush can be used to clean tricky parts such as seams or tooling. On a regular basis clean your saddle thoroughly with soapy water , glycerine soap (sold by saddlers) is probably the best soap to use, and let it dry well by hanging the saddle outside on a warm day if possible. When dry use a soft cloth or brush and a light oil to lubricate the saddle (baby oil or olive oil work well) then apply a leather conditioner to seal the pores. It's important to be sparing with the amount of oil you apply, you don't want a sticky saddle.
Regularly make sure there are no broken straps or loose stitching - if there are make sure you get them repaired quickly.
A pony saddle should always be hung properly on a saddle rack when not in use, and covered with a saddle cover or soft cloth to protect it from dust and dirt. | |
